DIMAR installs new navigation aids on Colombia's Pacific coast

The Colombian Maritime Directorate (DIMAR), through its Pacific Maritime Signaling (SEMAP) division, has completed the installation and maintenance of 33 navigation aids along the Colombian Pacific coast. The project included the maintenance of 12 lighthouses and 21 buoys across the departments of Cauca, Chocó, Nariño, and Valle del Cauca.

These efforts targeted coastal sectors in municipalities such as Juradó, Bahía Solano, Nuquí, Buenaventura, Guapi, and Tumaco. The technical work involved recovering out-of-service aids, maintaining lighting systems, modernizing equipment, and repositioning buoys in strategic areas to improve maritime safety and prevent accidents.

DIMAR currently manages a system of 146 navigation aids in the Colombian Pacific, consisting of 116 buoys, 17 lighthouses, and 13 beacons, sector lights, and alignments. This recent maintenance cycle addressed approximately 23% of the total infrastructure in the region.
