Hristijan Mickoski faces parliamentary clash over family business allegations

North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and Dimitar Apasiev, leader of the Levica party, engaged in a heated parliamentary confrontation involving allegations of nepotism and judicial misconduct.

Apasiev presented data regarding the business activities of Jordancho Janev, Mickoski’s brother-in-law, alleging a network of at least 15 companies across North Macedonia and Bulgaria. Apasiev questioned the connection between these private interests and public power, specifically citing a municipal tender in Strumica for a ceremonial lunch awarded to a firm linked to Janev. He also raised questions regarding political donations made by Janev and his relatives to the ruling VMRO-DPMNE party.

Mickoski dismissed the allegations as slander, asserting that Janev has operated his own independent businesses for over 25 years. He challenged Apasiev to present his claims in court rather than using the parliamentary podium for personal attacks.

In a separate interview, Mickoski criticized the Special Public Prosecutor (SJO), describing it as an ‘unconstitutional implant’ that failed to deliver justice and instead created a sense of public distrust. He argued that the institution was established on flawed foundations and served more as political spectacle than a legitimate judicial body.
