Dimitris Giannakopoulos addresses EuroLeague and NBA relations

Dimitris Giannakopoulos, owner of Panathinaikos BC, has commented on the evolving relationship between the EuroLeague and the NBA following a meeting of EuroLeague shareholders in Como. Giannakopoulos emphasized that the NBA’s interest in investing in the European market is a testament to the EuroLeague’s growing value and called for a collective solution to integrate the two entities.

He criticized the stance of certain clubs, specifically mentioning Olympiacos, suggesting they lack interest in the sport's development and are focused on financial losses rather than growth. Giannakopoulos also advocated for the return of CSKA Moscow to the EuroLeague, stating that the competition requires the presence of top teams like Real Madrid, Panathinaikos, and CSKA to have a true European champion.

Following the EuroLeague's initial rejection of current NBA proposals, reports suggest the NBA is preparing an improved offer to facilitate a partnership or a joint league. Analysts indicate that a deal is likely necessary to realize the vision of NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, as alternative formats remain difficult to implement.
