Lawyer Zafer Herand's Istanbul office targeted in armed attack

An armed attack targeted the law office of Istanbul Bar Association member Zafer Herand on August 24, 2026. While no injuries were reported, the office sustained material damage, including broken windows. Two suspects have been detained in connection with the incident. Herand suggested the attack might be linked to a criminal case he is handling or his professional legal activities, a possibility currently under investigation by authorities.

Separately, Turkish law enforcement has conducted several major operations targeting organized crime and illegal activities. In Istanbul, an operation against Dinamikpay Elektronik Para ve Ödeme Hizmetleri A.Ş. resulted in the detention of 13 individuals suspected of illegal betting and money laundering. Authorities seized assets including 8 vehicles, 33 residences, and 50 plots of land, while blocking 126 bank and cryptocurrency accounts.

In other criminal matters, police in Istanbul arrested four suspects for attacking officers who intervened in a domestic assault in Bayrampaşa. Additionally, an operation in Izmir and Manisa targeted illegal weapon manufacturing, leading to the detention of 13 suspects and the seizure of numerous firearms and components. Authorities also intercepted a shipment of 100 unlicensed pistols in Sakarya.
