Turkey crackdown widens amid CHP split, Yazıcıoğlu probe

Turkey’s July 2026 security drive continued to broaden. Nationwide police operations on 24 July, coordinated by the İzmir public prosecutor, dismantled a student‑house betting network in four provinces, detaining 34 suspects and arresting its alleged leader H. P. The Bodrum narcotics bust reported earlier was complemented by a detailed report on 24 July confirming the seizure of 900 g of skunk‑type cannabis, 50 g of cocaine, packaging equipment and cash, with three traffickers jailed.

In a parallel digital offensive, the Presidency Communication Department and police cyber‑crime units blocked 6,644 social‑media accounts over the preceding seven months – 3,679 linked to the FETÖ network and 2,965 to terrorism or disinformation campaigns – targeting platforms such as X, Instagram and TikTok.

Further drug‑trafficking actions on 26 July uncovered a massive 339 kg of liquid methamphetamine in Istanbul and Sakarya, leading to five arrests, and an airport interception captured 380 g of meth hidden in a passenger’s stomach.

These actions extend the July security campaign that already encompassed arrests of mayoral officials, DEAŞ raids, and investigations into the 2009 Yazıcıoğlu helicopter crash, while the intra‑CHP leadership dispute and plans for a splinter party continue to unfold.
