Venezuela opposition delegation arrives for second round of political dialogue
A delegation from the 2015 National Assembly has arrived in Venezuela to begin a second cycle of political negotiations with the government. This round of dialogue, promoted by the United States, focuses on the reinstitutionalization of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ), specifically regarding the procedures for nominating and selecting magistrates in accordance with organic law.
In addition to judicial reforms, the agenda includes discussions on civil and political guarantees, freedom of expression, and the establishment of conditions for future electoral processes. The opposition delegation, led by Dinorah Figuera and including Jorge Millán, aims to secure verifiable objectives to restore democratic order.
Previous discussions in August reportedly resulted in preliminary agreements concerning the TSJ and the recovery of Venezuelan gold held in the Bank of England. The current cycle includes technical working groups focused on democracy strengthening, political guarantees, and implementation of agreements. Representatives indicated that significant announcements regarding the TSJ could be made as early as next week.
