Syriza parliamentary group secretary Diōnysēs Kalamatiānós resigns
Greek MP Diōnysēs Kalamatiānós of the party Syriza submitted his resignation as secretary of the party’s parliamentary group. In a letter to the group’s members he wrote that his decision was “conscious and the result of mature reflection.” He emphasized that he remains a member of parliament, so the composition of the Syriza parliamentary group does not change.
The resignation follows the abrupt departure of Syriza leader Sokratis Famelos, which triggered a series of internal resignations, including that of Avgi newspaper director Lambros Tsouknias. Party officials are still arranging the next meeting of the Political Secretariat and the Central Committee, while the opposition within Syriza is urging a prompt convening of the Political Secretariat in Koulouroudou.
Kalamatiānós thanked his colleagues, staff and collaborators for their support and pledged to continue upholding the party’s principles and values.
