Diourbel investigation launched after man found dead following assault on wife

An investigation is underway in the Sessène neighborhood of Diourbel following the death of a 29-year-old upholsterer, known as Youssou (A. Mboup), and the injury of his wife.

The victim's wife, A. C. Sène, was hospitalized after a violent altercation. She reported that her husband attacked her while she was sleeping, attempting to suffocate her and wounding her with a kitchen knife. She sustained injuries to her forearms and superficial wounds.

Hours after the assault, A. Mboup was found dead in a nearby house. While suicide is being considered as a possibility, investigators have noted suspicious injuries on his body, including marks on his neck that may have been caused by an object. Authorities are not ruling out the possibility that a crime was staged to look like a suicide.

Prosecutor Amary Faye has ordered an autopsy at the Idrissa Pouye Hospital in Dakar to determine the exact cause of death. The investigation is also looking into potential motives involving domestic tensions and suspected infidelity.
