Spanish regional governments approve major infrastructure and budget updates

In Spain, several provincial and municipal governments have announced significant infrastructure and budgetary updates.

The Diputación de Jaén has reported being the leading provincial administration in Andalusia regarding per capita spending and public works investment. During its recent plenary session, the institution approved its General Account, highlighting spending of 663 euros per inhabitant compared to the Andalusian average of 366 euros. Additionally, the Jaén City Council has unanimously approved a 16 million euro tender to repair 186 streets, utilizing funds from the Spanish government intended to mitigate damage caused by recent storm systems.

In Ciudad Real, the Diputación approved its 2025 General Account, revealing a treasury surplus of 123 million euros and a net worth of 619.49 million euros. While the accounts show a reduction in long-term debt, the Socialist Group abstained from the vote, arguing that the institution has a “problem of model” rather than a lack of funds. They criticized the current administration for not translating its financial strength into more effective direct support and services for municipalities facing economic pressure.

Separately, the Benavente City Council has approved an investment of over 660,000 euros for road paving projects across various high-traffic streets to improve urban circulation and safety.
