The Workers' Party (PT) confirmed an alliance with the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB) for the 2026 Pará gubernatorial election, naming state deputy Dirceu Ten Caten as the vice‑governor candidate on the ticket headed by incumbent governor Hana Ghassan (MDB). The partnership aims to broaden the coalition's appeal across the state, support President Luiz Inácio Lula’s re‑election, and present a “broad democratic front.”

The alliance also backs former governor Helder Barbalho and Union Brazil deputy Chicão for Senate seats. The official announcement is scheduled for 1 August at the Mangueirão Stadium in Belém. Dirceu Ten Caten, 36, a lawyer from Marabá, is serving his third term as a PT state deputy and previously ran for mayor of Marabá, finishing third in the first round.

The strategic move is intended to consolidate PT and MDB support in Pará’s south‑and‑southeast regions, where the PT has strong union and social movement ties, while enhancing Hana Ghassan’s regional reach.
