Director Fatih Akin discusses financial struggles and new film Geister
German director Fatih Akin has opened up about the significant financial and personal consequences following the production of his 2014 film, “The Cut”. The production, which cost 15 million euros, resulted in a financial disaster for the director, who stated he is still paying off debts related to the project.
Akin described the period following the film as a personal crisis where he doubted his talent and lifestyle. He noted that the ambition of the project, which he intended to change the world with, proved to be too large and technical.
His new film, “Geister”, which premiered in cinemas on November 5, was inspired by a suggestion from his son during this difficult period. The film is described as a supernatural love drama set in Hamburg, following two young people, Farasha and Faris, who can only meet in dreams after a devastating accident.
