Director Zach Cregger discusses Resident Evil film adaptation
Director Zach Cregger has expressed satisfaction with the reception of his Resident Evil film adaptation. In an interview with A Shot Magazine, Cregger noted that while he cannot say if he feels validated, he is pleased that audiences are engaging with and providing feedback on the work.
Cregger described the screenwriting process as exciting, but noted that the high level of audience expectations eventually felt overwhelming, shifting from interest in the film to a perceived cultural demand. He recalled facing intense scrutiny on the internet regarding minor details, such as the presence of snow or the use of modern technology, even before the film's release.
The film serves as a fresh start for the franchise, requiring no prior knowledge of previous adaptations. It follows a character named Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, who becomes stranded in Raccoon City amidst an emerging zombie crisis involving the Umbrella Corporation.
Cregger’s next project, a science fiction film titled The Flood starring Jennifer Lawrence, is scheduled for release in 2028.
