DISH and Sling TV emerge from bankruptcy after $4.35 billion debt reduction

DISH DBS Corporation and its subsidiary Sling TV have emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy following a prepackaged reorganization. The restructuring resulted in a reduction of approximately $4.35 billion in aggregate outstanding debt. The process involved the repayment of senior notes and was overseen by the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas.

Concurrently, Sling TV has discontinued its ‘Sling Pass’ feature, which previously allowed customers to purchase short-term access to specific channels, such as ESPN and CNN, for 24 hours, three days, or seven days. The removal of these passes follows legal challenges from programmers including The Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros. Discovery, who alleged the feature violated distribution agreements. Sling TV has directed customers toward monthly subscription packages such as Sling Essentials and Sling Select.
