DISH and Sling TV bankruptcy reorganization
Overview
DISH DBS Corporation and its subsidiary Sling TV have emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy following a prepackaged reorganization. The restructuring, overseen by the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, reduced aggregate outstanding debt from approximately $8.75 billion to roughly $4.4 billion.
The reorganization involved the full repayment of 7.75 percent senior notes due in July 2026 and a partial early repayment of 5.25 percent senior secured notes due in December 2026, receiving support from more than 88 percent of lenders.
While the television and streaming businesses have exited bankruptcy, Dish Wireless remains under Chapter 11 protection. The wireless division continues to face complications regarding obligations to infrastructure providers, including a $3.5 billion claim from Crown Castle. Concurrently, Sling TV has discontinued its ‘Sling Pass’ feature following legal challenges from programmers such as The Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros. Discovery, directing customers toward monthly subscription packages instead.
