Disney and Pixar’s ‘Cars’ celebrates 20th anniversary with limited Japanese theatrical release
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Disney and Pixar animated film ‘Cars’, a special one-week limited theatrical screening of the Japanese dubbed version will take place from September 4 to September 10 across theaters in Japan.
A commemorative visual featuring the film's characters has been released to mark the occasion. Japanese voice actors Dai Tsuchida, who voices Lightning McQueen, and Tomomitsu Yamaguchi, who voices Mater, shared messages of gratitude and reflection on the franchise's enduring legacy. Tsuchida highlighted the character's growth and the timeless appeal of the story, while Yamaguchi expressed his deep personal connection to the role and the film's impact across generations.
Originally released in 2006, ‘Cars’ became a global success, earning $462 million at the box office and receiving accolades including a Golden Globe Award. The franchise has since expanded through sequels, short films, and various media products.
