Disney announces phased 2027 opening for Monstropolis land

Disney has announced a phased opening for the Monstropolis land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, beginning in 2027. The expansion, a collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios, is based on the Monsters, Inc. franchise.

Initial openings in 2027 will include the Glob Theater, which will house a new show titled “Welcome to Monstropolis,” two dining locations, and a merchandise shop. The signature Monsters Inc. Door Vault roller coaster is expected to continue construction beyond the initial 2027 phase, with full completion previously anticipated for 2028.

The land’s narrative follows the events of the film, establishing a backstory where the city of Monstropolis has decided to welcome humans into its world. The project will also feature original music by Disney Legend Randy Newman.
