Disney theme park and resort expansions

Overview

Disney has announced several upcoming expansions and seasonal plans for its theme parks and resorts.

In mid-August, the company detailed a phased opening for the Monstropolis land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios beginning in 2027. This Pixar-themed expansion will initially feature the Glob Theater, two dining locations, and a merchandise shop. Construction on the signature Monsters Inc. Door Vault roller coaster is expected to continue past the initial 2027 phase.

Regarding the new Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge on Bay Lake, the resort is scheduled to officially open on July 1, 2027. The property will feature 967 accommodations, including studios, villas, suites, and one- or two-bedroom Lake Houses. The design will draw inspiration from films such as ‘Bambi’, ‘Pocahontas’, ‘Encanto’, and ‘Brother Bear’. Planned amenities include a lazy river, scenic trails, waterfront dining, and water taxi access to Magic Kingdom Park. Disney Vacation Club members may participate in a ‘First Wave’ exclusive experience from June 24 through June 27, 2027.

Booking for the lodge will open in phases starting October 6, 2026, for Disney Vacation Club members, followed by Annual Passholders on October 7, and the general public on October 8.

Disneyland Resort has outlined its 2026 holiday season, running from November 13, 2026, to January 6, 2027. Festivities include the return of ‘A Christmas Fantasy Parade’, the ‘Believe... in Holiday Magic’ fireworks show, and ‘World of Color – Season of Light’ at Disney California Adventure. Additionally, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom will continue to offer seasonal entertainment, with dining reservation windows opening in September.
