Disney introduces Infinity Vision certification and immersive VR projects

Disney is expanding its technological footprint in both traditional and virtual cinema. At CinemaCon, the studio introduced ‘Infinity Vision,’ a new certification system for Premium Large Format (PLF) theaters. This standard aims to ensure that major productions, such as Marvel and Star Wars films, are screened with consistent high quality. To earn the certification, theaters must meet strict technical requirements, including a minimum screen width of approximately 15 meters and the use of laser projection instead of xenon lamps.

Simultaneously, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) announced two immersive projects designed for Meta VR hardware, including Meta Quest 3 and 3S. ‘Disney Immersive Cinema by ILM’ will offer optimized virtual reality versions of major films, starting with ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’ These experiences aim to expand the cinematic environment around the viewer to increase emotional depth. Additionally, ‘National Geographic: Beyond’ will provide a 180-degree stereoscopic documentary experience set in Africa, allowing users to interact closely with wildlife in its natural ecosystem.
