Walt Disney World announces major park expansions and new attractions

Walt Disney World has announced several major expansions and refurbishments across its theme parks. At Magic Kingdom, the largest expansion in the park’s history is underway, featuring the development of Piston Peak National Park in Frontierland. This new area will be themed around Pixar’s Cars and include a family-friendly off-roading thrill ride.

Other Magic Kingdom updates include a major reimagining of the Carousel of Progress, which is currently closed for extensive refurbishment and is expected to reopen in 2027. Additionally, plans for a Villains-themed land beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad have been previewed.

At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, a new 11-acre land called Pueblo Esperanza is scheduled to debut in 2027. Inspired by the tropical Americas, it will feature an Indiana Jones attraction and a ride-through experience based on the film Encanto.

EPCOT will also see updates in 2027, including the debut of a new Figment interpretation for the Disney Lorcana trading card game during the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts.
