Walt Disney World guest experience and construction updates
Overview
By August 2026, construction at Magic Kingdom intensified as the Westward Ho Refreshments kiosk was completely demolished to clear space for the Piston Peak National Park expansion. The site now serves as a construction staging ground, though crews have preserved a large, mature tree near the former location. To compensate for the loss of the kiosk’s offerings, Disney has relocated nearby snack options.
Disney has since provided broader details on several major upcoming expansions. At Magic Kingdom, the Cars-themed Piston Peak National Park will feature rugged terrain, waterfalls, and geysers, including a headliner racing ride and a visitor lodge. Additionally, a Villains-themed land is being developed beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, described by Imagineering President Bruce Vaughn as an ambitious project comparable in scale to Galaxy’s Edge. To maintain immersion, Imagineers are utilizing a “balloon test” to protect sightlines between themed areas.
Other long-term developments include the 2027 debut of Pueblo Esperanza at Animal Kingdom, an 11-acre land inspired by the tropical Americas featuring an Indiana Jones attraction and an Encanto-themed experience. At Hollywood Studios, construction is progressing on Monstropolis, a Monsters, Inc.-themed land slated for 2027. EPCOT is also expected to see updates in 2027, including a new Figment interpretation for the Disney Lorcana trading card game during the International Festival of the Arts. Meanwhile, the Carousel of Progress remains closed for extensive refurbishment, with a projected reopening in 2027.
