Disney reveals new Avatar land for California Adventure

Disney has revealed official concept art and details for a new ‘Avatar’ themed land coming to Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. The announcement, made during the D23 fan event, clarifies that the project is proceeding despite previous rumors of cancellation.

The expansion will feature a large-scale boat ride as its headliner attraction, incorporating both indoor and outdoor segments with varying levels of intensity. To accommodate the new land, the ‘Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!’ attraction will permanently close.

Construction is also underway for a new transportation hub located east of the theme parks. This hub will include a bridge crossing over Harbor Boulevard to provide direct access to the park entrances. While the new Pandora area will be massive, it is noted to be smaller than the existing Avatar-themed land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando.
