Disney reveals Piston Peak National Park Cars expansion

Disney has unveiled a detailed scale model of Piston Peak National Park, a new Cars-themed expansion at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Revealed during the D23 fan event, the project is part of the largest expansion in the history of the Magic Kingdom park.

The new land will replace the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, which were permanently closed in July 2025. Piston Peak is designed to draw inspiration from the Rocky Mountains and various American national parks, featuring rugged terrain, mountains, waterfalls, geysers, and waterways.

Planned attractions include a headliner racing ride through the frontier and a spinning flat ride with character-themed vehicles. The expansion will also include a visitor lodge, Ranger HQ, and various trails. Design details in the model suggest that Walt Disney Imagineering may include homages to the former Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America through specific architectural structures.
