Disney updates Savi’s Workshop lightsaber designs and effects

Disney has introduced new upgrades to the lightsaber building experience at Savi’s Workshop, located within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World.

Starting October 5, guests can select a new ‘Protection and Defense’ hilt design. This aesthetic features white finishes, gold detailing, and ancient Jedi-inspired symbols drawn from the High Republic era.

In addition to the new hilt, Disney has upgraded the lightsaber chassis and blades for all themes. These enhancements include improved audio, smoother blade activation, and new visual effects such as thermal cutting, spinning, and deflection. Furthermore, special ‘cracked’ Kyber crystals allow for a color-change effect triggered by a flick of the wrist, intended to represent the struggle between the light and dark sides of the Force.
