Distrito Federal Governor challenges federal bank exclusivity and faces union protests
The Governor of the Federal District, Celina Leão, has initiated legal action in the Supreme Federal Court to challenge regulations requiring federal health funds to be managed exclusively by federal banks, such as Banco do Brasil and Caixa Econômica Federal. Leão argues that these rules restrict the administrative and financial autonomy of the Federal District and prevent the Banco de Brasília (BRB) from managing these resources. The lawsuit claims the current requirements violate the principle of free competition.
Separately, the Teachers' Union of the Federal District (Sinpro-DF) has denounced an order from the Celina Leão administration to remove posters from public schools regarding the BRB/Master case. The union claims the memorandum from the Education Secretariat aims to suppress information about political figures responsible for decisions related to the BRB and Banco Master crisis. Sinpro-DF maintains the materials were intended for public clarification rather than electoral campaigning, following a legal challenge by Deputy Marcos Martins Machado.
