Distrito Federal health fund and BRB controversy
Overview
During the Distrito Federal gubernatorial election, candidate Leandro Grass accused incumbent Governor Celina Leão of transferring R$ 120 million from the District Health Fund to the Banco de Brasília (BRB) to cover budget gaps. Official documents confirmed the transfer occurred on September 21, with the BRB reporting the funds were applied in a Certificate of Bank Deposit (CDB) that generated R$ 57,898.80 in returns.
Following these allegations, Governor Leão initiated legal action in the Supreme Federal Court to challenge regulations that require federal health funds to be managed exclusively by federal banks. Leão argues that current rules restrict the administrative and financial autonomy of the Federal District and violate the principle of free competition by preventing the BRB from managing such resources.
Concurrently, the Teachers' Union of the Federal District (Sinpro-DF) has denounced an order from the Leão administration to remove posters from public schools regarding the BRB/Master case. The union claims the administration is attempting to suppress information related to political figures involved in the BRB and Banco Master crisis.
