Distrito Federal storm causes structural damage and displacement

A severe storm characterized by heavy hail and wind gusts reaching up to 80 km/h struck the Distrito Federal on Wednesday, causing widespread destruction in regions including Planaltina, Arapoanga, and Samambaia.

The storm resulted in significant structural damage, including collapsed walls, fallen trees, and destroyed roofs for both residential and commercial properties. At least 25 people were left homeless due to flooding and roof failures. Emergency services, including the Military Fire Brigade (CBMDF), responded to dozens of incidents involving electrical risks, fallen trees, and structural collapses.

The Government of the Distrito Federal (GDF) has activated an emergency task force involving Civil Defense, Novacap, and social assistance teams to provide humanitarian aid and clear debris. Authorities are conducting technical inspections of interdicted properties to assess safety and repair needs.
