Divinópolis municipal workers strike over pension reform
The municipality of Divinópolis, Minas Gerais, issued an extrajudicial notice to the municipal workers' unions, demanding an end to the strike within 24 hours after the city council approved a pension reform bill. The strike, which began on Friday for education staff and expanded to all municipal employees on Monday, was motivated by opposition to changes in the Diviprev pension system. The city warned it could seek a judicial declaration of illegality if the strike continued.
In Poços de Caldas, also in Minas Gerais, the municipal servants' union filed an urgent injunction with the labour court to protect education workers summoned to a mandatory “Dia E” event that lacks adequate seating and organisation. The union seeks to prevent any salary deductions or disciplinary actions against staff who cannot attend under the conditions described.
