NVIDIA updates DLSS 5 with faster AI model for gaming
NVIDIA has announced an updated DLSS 5 AI model designed to improve the performance of its neural rendering technology. The company claims the new model is twice as fast as the version that debuted in NBA 2K27 last month, and ten times faster than the initial DLSS 5 reveal.
Key technical improvements include a 24% reduction in model size to approximately 118 million parameters and a 20% reduction in VRAM usage at 4K resolution. NVIDIA states these optimizations cut GPU overhead in half while maintaining comparable visual fidelity. The technology works by using AI to enhance lighting, materials, and visual details based on game engine data.
The rollout includes support for Hogwarts Legacy on November 5, 2026, as well as Where Winds Meet later in November. RTX Remix will also receive the update on October 23. While NVIDIA reports significant speed gains, some users and testers have noted that the visual improvements in certain titles can be subtle, leading to discussions regarding the trade-off between performance gains and noticeable graphical changes.
