Diyarbakır City Hospital workers strike over safety and wages

Workers at the Diyarbakır City Hospital construction site have entered their fifth day of a strike and refusal to work. The protest involves members of the Yapı-Yol İş union employed by the main contractor, Gürbağ Grup, and subcontractor Hermet Mekanik.

The workers are citing insufficient occupational health and safety measures and unpaid overtime wages as the primary reasons for their action. In response to the work stoppage, employers have reportedly requested written defenses from workers, alleging absenteeism. Union representatives claim these defense requests violate labor laws by providing insufficient time for responses.

Additionally, reports indicate that approximately 90 workers were dismissed from their positions. The strike has drawn support from various labor platforms and political representatives, who are calling for government intervention from the Ministry of Labor and local authorities to address the alleged rights violations and unsafe working conditions.
