Diyarbakır City Hospital construction labor dispute

Construction workers at the Diyarbakır City Hospital site, employed by main contractor Gürbağ Grup and subcontractor Hermet Mekanik, initiated a strike over unpaid overtime wages and insufficient occupational health and safety measures.

By the fifth day of the work stoppage, reports indicated that approximately 90 workers had been dismissed. Union representatives from Yapı-Yol İş alleged that employers were violating labor laws by requesting written defenses for absenteeism within insufficient timeframes.

As the protest entered its eighth day, the number of protesting workers was reported at approximately 75. Beyond wage and safety concerns, workers alleged they were facing mobbing and intimidation due to their union membership. Additional grievances included unfair wage deductions and social security premiums being calculated based on minimum wage rather than actual earnings. Local officials, including Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayors Serra Bucak and Emin Ay, visited the site to support the laborers and called for authorities to protect their rights during the public investment project.
