Law enforcement conducts major drug and smuggling operations in Turkey and Cyprus
Law enforcement agencies in Turkey and Cyprus have conducted several major operations targeting narcotics and smuggling. In Turkey, coordinated efforts in Kırklareli and four other provinces dismantled a drug trafficking network that utilized Telegram, Signal, and Darkweb marketplaces to conduct business via cargo and drop methods. This operation resulted in the seizure of 3.3 kg of cocaine, 7.35 kg of liquid cannabis, 8.45 kg of skunk, and various synthetic drugs, leading to six arrests.
Other significant Turkish operations included a massive seizure of 256,900 synthetic pills in a minibus at a Mersin City Hospital parking lot, and various raids in Kocaeli and Çanakkale targeting drugs, illegal gambling, and contraband. In Tarsus, a new initiative was launched in collaboration with the Mersin Chamber of Pharmacists to collect expired or unused medications at 17 volunteer pharmacies to prevent environmental contamination.
In Cyprus, police in Nicosia and Kyrenia conducted raids resulting in the seizure of cannabis, MDMA, and cocaine, alongside significant amounts of cash. Authorities also reported the discovery of live ammunition in Famagusta and the arrest of an individual at Ercan Airport for possessing prescription pills.
