DJ Kavinsky’s Death Highlights Global Impact of ‘Nightcall’

French DJ and producer Vincent Belorgey, known as Kavinsky, died unexpectedly in 2024. His 2011 synth‑pop track “Nightcall” became a worldwide hit after being featured in the film *Drive* starring Ryan Gosling, cementing his international reputation.

Director Nicolas Winding Refn, who helmed *Drive*, wrote a tribute describing Kavinsky as kind and an icon of pop music, noting the song’s lasting influence. Kavinsky’s earlier collaborations included Daft‑Punk’s Guy‑Manuel de Homem‑Christo, performances at Coachella, and his 2013 album *Outrun*, which was used in major car advertisements.

In 2024 the song enjoyed a resurgence when Kavinsky performed a new version of “Nightcall” at the Paris Olympic Games closing ceremony alongside Angèle and the band Phoenix, reaching hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide.
