DJI and Insta360 dominate handheld smart camera market
Global shipments of handheld smart cameras, including action, gimbal, and 360 cameras, rose 57% year-over-year in Q2 2026, reaching 5.88 million units. Total sales revenue for the category increased by 50% to $2.34 billion.
DJI and Insta360 collectively control 93% of the market, though they dominate different segments. DJI holds 73% of the overall market, driven largely by its 60% share of the gimbal camera segment. The gimbal category saw 87% year-over-year growth, shipping 2.80 million units.
Insta360 maintains a 20% overall market share, anchored by its 73% dominance in the 360 camera segment. While the 360 camera market grew by 4%, the action camera segment grew by 47% year-over-year, shipping 2.55 million units.
In product developments, DJI has released the Osmo 360 II, which focuses on refinements to core image quality, build durability, and usability rather than major specification changes. The new model features a more rugged design, improved microphone mesh, and a magnetic quick-release adapter mount.
