DJI Osmo Action 6 cameras record LandSpace Zhuque-3 rocket flight

Twelve unmodified DJI Osmo Action 6 consumer-grade cameras were mounted to the Zhuque-3 reusable rocket during a LandSpace mission on August 19. The cameras captured the entire flight process, including takeoff, orbital deployment, and the first successful land-based recovery of a Chinese orbital launch vehicle via vertical landing.

Despite facing extreme conditions, including temperatures between 400°C and 500°C during atmospheric reentry and intense high-frequency vibrations, the cameras successfully recorded high-fidelity 4K footage. The devices utilized internal recording to bypass the communication blackout experienced during reentry.

DJI stated that the footage provides “extraordinarily valuable high-fidelity first-person perspectives” for aerospace engineers to evaluate the rocket's first-stage condition and refine future recovery processes. The mission highlights the resilience of the Osmo Action 6's stabilization algorithms and sensor capabilities in highly dynamic and unpredictable environments.
