DJI camera usage in Zhuque-3 rocket mission
Overview
Twelve unmodified DJI Osmo Action 6 cameras were deployed on LandSpace’s reusable Zhuque-3 rocket to capture its flight process, including launch, orbital phases, and vertical landing.
Despite extreme thermal conditions between 400°C and 500°C and high-frequency vibrations, the cameras operated without structural adaptations. The devices utilized integrated local recording to maintain high-definition data through the atmospheric blackout zone.
Following the August 19 mission, which achieved the first successful land-based recovery of a Chinese orbital launch vehicle via vertical landing, DJI noted that the footage provides “extraordinarily valuable high-fidelity first-person perspectives” for aerospace engineers. The recorded 4K data is being used to evaluate the rocket’s first-stage condition, refine future recovery processes, and demonstrate the resilience of the cameras' stabilization algorithms and sensor capabilities in highly dynamic environments.
