Djugu, DRC: Fighting between FARDC and CRP displaces thousands

Armed clashes have intensified in the Djugu territory of Ituri, Democratic Republic of the Congo, involving the Congolese army (FARDC) and the Convention for Popular Revolution (CRP). Fighting was reported in the Gina area and near the localities of Nyampala and Rhoo.

The violence has triggered significant civilian displacement. Approximately 3,100 people, including roughly 1,600 women and 900 children, have fled to seek protection near MONUSCO bases. At the Rhoo site, nine civilians, including women and infants, required urgent medical care for gunshot wounds and other injuries.

These recent confrontations follow a military operation launched by the FARDC on September 21 against suspected CRP positions. While the CRP had previously announced a unilateral ceasefire in May, recent hostilities have escalated tensions in the region. MONUSCO forces, including Bangladeshi peacekeepers, have increased their presence to coordinate with local authorities and the FARDC.
