DKB warns of new phishing email demanding account re‑authentication
Customers of the German direct bank DKB have been targeted with a phishing email that pretends to come from the bank. The message uses the subject line “Ihre DKB‑App‑Registrierung lauft am 15. Juli 2026 ab” – note the typo in “lauft”. Recipients are urged to click a link and call a phone number to re‑authenticate, with a warning that their account will be locked otherwise.
DKB confirms it never sends such communications and advises customers to ignore the email, delete it, and verify any account issues only through the official app, online banking portal or the bank’s known website. Consumer protection agencies warn that the scheme aims to harvest personal data such as names, email addresses, passwords and birthdays, which could be sold on the dark web or used for identity theft. The tactics rely on fear and time pressure, common features of phishing attacks.
