DMEXCO 2026 highlights challenges in scaling AI marketing content
At the DMEXCO 2026 marketing trade fair in Cologne, the central theme was “Scaling Intelligence,” reflecting a shift from experimenting with artificial intelligence to implementing it at scale.
Discussions highlighted a dual challenge: while AI allows marketing teams to increase content frequency and target specific long-tail audiences, consumer acceptance remains a hurdle. Research presented at the event indicated that consumer approval for images drops significantly once participants realize the content is AI-generated, with younger demographics being particularly critical.
Furthermore, a McKinsey “State of Marketing Europe 2026” report noted that only 6 percent of surveyed marketing executives consider the use of generative AI in their companies to be mature. Experts suggested that marketers must now navigate two distinct audiences: machines, such as search engines and algorithms that require high volumes of structured data, and humans, who require emotional resonance and meaning.
