Dmitri Medvedev slams EU Commission chief over Constanța drone blast

A maritime drone exploded near the Romanian port of Constanța, an incident Ukrainian naval officials said resulted from Russian interference. The blast was cited by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as a direct consequence of Russia’s war in Ukraine.

In response, former Russian president and current Security Council vice‑president Dmitri Medvedev launched a harsh verbal attack on von der Leyen, calling her a “thermonuclear idiot” and threatening an explosion at the EU headquarters in Brussels. He criticized the EU’s statement linking the Constanța incident to Moscow’s actions, escalating a sharp exchange between Moscow and Brussels.
