DMK and Congress clash over delimitation in Tamil Nadu

Political friction has intensified between the DMK and Congress regarding the central government's proposed delimitation exercise in India. The dispute involves concerns over how a population-based redrawing of constituencies might affect Tamil Nadu's political representation.

Former DMK Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi NVN Somu defended the DMK's stance, stating that in politics, "nobody can be called a friend or an enemy" forever and asserting that the party prioritizes the interests of Tamil Nadu. Her comments prompted a sharp response from TNCC president Manickam Tagore, who criticized the DMK's position and questioned their political alignments.

Separately, TVK leader and Tamil Nadu Minister Arunraaj called on the DMK and other opposition parties to unite against the Union government's unilateral decision. He accused the DMK of engaging in "petty politics" and using the Mekedatu Dam row as an excuse to distance itself from a unified opposition stance. During a recent meeting of Tamil Nadu MPs intended to oppose the delimitation plan, 36 out of 57 MPs opted to stay away, including representatives from the DMK, AIADMK, PMK, and DMDK.
