DMK implements age and term limits in major organizational restructure

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has announced a major organizational restructuring following its performance in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. During an executive committee meeting chaired by party president MK Stalin in Chennai, the party approved several resolutions aimed at revitalizing its leadership and introducing “new blood” into the ranks.

Key changes include the implementation of age and tenure limits for various party positions. District Committee Secretaries are now capped at a maximum age of 70 years and can serve for up to three terms. Other roles face stricter limits: Branch Secretaries must be 45 or younger with a two-term limit, Ward Committee Secretaries are capped at 50 years, and Town Panchayat, Area, and Union Secretaries have an age ceiling of 60 years with a two-term limit.

The party also plans to expand its organizational footprint by increasing the number of district units from 77 or 78 to approximately 110. This expansion is intended to ensure that each party district covers roughly two Assembly constituencies, allowing for more effective local monitoring and coordination. Additionally, the restructuring includes the creation of new branch-level structures in major corporations such as Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, and Salem.
