Docomo Bank to Offer Customizable App Icons After User Criticism

On July 29, Sumishin SBI Net Bank, a subsidiary of the Docomo Financial Group, announced that the mobile app for the rebranded "Docomo Bank" will allow users to select from the new icon as well as previous designs. The move follows online criticism that labelled the new icon "ugly" and hard to read. The company plans to launch the icon‑selection feature by the end of September 2026 and will subsequently add additional icons inspired by branch names.

The bank will change its corporate name to "Docomo SMTB Net Bank" on August 3 and refresh its personal‑banking brand to "Docomo Bank". While many users expressed dissatisfaction with the new design, some praised the company for responding to feedback.
