Doctolib launches AI research program using patient data amid privacy concerns

Doctolib announced a three‑year AI research initiative that will analyze pseudonymised health data from its users to develop tools that can anticipate disease progression, suggest exams, and flag emergencies. The programme, run by a new clinical‑AI laboratory in partnership with Inria, Inserm, University Paris Cité and Doctolib researchers, will store data for up to five years and promises to improve care pathways.

Human‑rights groups, including the Ligue des droits de l’Homme, have criticised the project, arguing that even pseudonymised data remain sensitive and that default consent does not guarantee sufficient protection. They also note that the data are hosted by Amazon, subject to United States jurisdiction, raising further privacy concerns in France.
