Doctor arrested for dismembering and abandoning wife's body in Hyogo

Kenji Shimomura, a 46-year-old doctor from Nishinomiya, has been arrested on suspicion of dismembering and abandoning the body of his wife, Mami Shimomura, 41, in a river in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture.

The incident occurred in August last year at the couple's residence in Amagasaki. Following the crime, Shimomura reportedly filed a missing person report in September, claiming his wife had left home after an argument and had not been in contact since.

Police recovered bones from the river that showed signs of being finely cut. Shimomura has reportedly admitted to the charges, stating that he “cut the bones and body parts separately before discarding them” and transported them in a bag. Investigators have seized multiple blades from the residence to determine if they were used in the dismemberment.
