Luciano Lopes Pastor dies in police confrontation in Catanduva

Luciano Lopes Pastor, a 52-year-old vascular surgeon, died following a shootout with Military Police in Catanduva, São Paulo, on Sunday, October 18. The confrontation began after Pastor's wife reported being threatened by her husband, noting he was aggressive and armed following a social gathering involving alcohol.

During the police intervention, officers attempted to negotiate with Pastor, who was positioned at the entrance of his residence. According to police reports, Pastor pointed a weapon at the officers and opened fire, prompting them to return fire. Pastor died at the scene. His wife and two children were rescued from the home without physical injuries.

Upon searching the residence, authorities discovered an arsenal of firearms and ammunition inside an open safe. Police also identified a German-made 'Stick Hand' grenade souvenir, which was determined to be a non-explosive simulacrum.

Pastor was a prominent figure in the region, having served as the president of the Mahatma Gandhi Association, a social organization managing health services. He had previously been detained in August 2025 as part of 'Operation Two Faces,' an investigation into suspected corruption and money laundering involving the management of public health resources.
