Incidents in Catanduva, São Paulo

Two separate incidents involving deaths have been reported in Catanduva, São Paulo.

In one case, the Civil Police are investigating the suspicious death of 33-year-old Fabrício Augusto das Neves at a local motel on October 12. The victim was reportedly with Ana Lígia Oliveira do Carmo and pastor Alex Sandro Soares Zeca. Reports indicate the group consumed alcohol and drugs, after which Das Neves reportedly fell ill and suffered convulsions. While one witness attempted to provide aid, Zeca allegedly attempted to flee the premises. The death was confirmed on-site by emergency medical services (Samu), and the body was sent to the Medical Legal Institute (IML) for examination. Zeca has a prior criminal record, including a November 2025 arrest for domestic violence and illegal possession of a firearm. The investigation is treating the incident as a suspicious death involving potential charges related to drug possession and property damage.

In a separate incident, 52-year-old vascular surgeon Luciano Lopes Pastor died following an armed confrontation with police on October 18. Authorities responded to a domestic violence report after Pastor’s wife reported being threatened by her husband, who was described as aggressive and armed following a social gathering. During a negotiation attempt, Pastor allegedly pointed a weapon at officers and opened fire, leading police to return fire. Two children were rescued from the residence unharmed. Upon searching the home, authorities discovered an arsenal of firearms and ammunition in an open safe, as well as a non-explosive German-made ‘Stick Hand’ grenade souvenir. Pastor was a prominent local figure and president of the Mahatma Gandhi Association. He had previously been detained in August 2025 during ‘Operation Two Faces,’ an investigation into suspected corruption and money laundering.
