Doctors in Mazonakis death case granted deadline for defense
Two doctors facing prosecution for the death of Giorgos Mazonakis at the Stem Cell Clinic in Kolonaki have been granted a deadline until Monday, September 14, to prepare their defense before the investigating magistrate.
The doctors are currently facing charges of fatal exposure. However, the family of the deceased, represented by lawyer Charalambos Lykoudis, has announced intentions to request an upgrade of the charges to manslaughter with potential intent. This legal distinction hinges on whether the defendants acted with awareness of the serious risk of a fatal outcome, which carries significantly higher penalties than the current charge of fatal exposure, which has a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
