Documentary ‘Yugo goes to America’ to screen in Zadar

The documentary filmYugo goes to America’, directed by Filip Grujić and Aleksa Borković, will be screened at the plateau next to the Zadar City Library on Thursday, August 20, at 9:00 PM. The event, part of the Kino Zona program, will include a discussion with the directors regarding the film's motivations and behind-the-scenes moments.

The film follows a group of friends born in the 1990s in Serbia who travel across 23 US states, from New York to Los Angeles, in a Yugo. Their mission is to track down the remains of the Yugoslav-made car and traverse the continent in it, exploring the vehicle's complex history.

Originally marketed in the 1980s as an affordable entry into the American market for Kragujevac-based Zastava, the Yugo eventually gained a reputation in the US as one of the worst cars ever produced. However, this notoriety led to a secondary life as a recognizable icon in American pop culture, appearing in films, television shows, and jokes.
