DOK Leipzig festival to host 69th edition in October 2026
The 69th edition of DOK Leipzig, an international festival for documentary and animated film, is scheduled to take place from October 26 to November 1, 2026. The event serves as a global meeting point for filmmakers and audiences, focusing on artistic tradition, social discourse, and technological innovation.
A major highlight is the XR exhibition ‘DOK Neuland’ under the theme ‘Landslide,’ which explores ecological and societal crises through immersive media. Featured works include the 360-degree VR reportage ‘Living in Water’ and AI-supported installations. Admission to the festival venues is free.
The broadcaster MDR is supporting the festival through editorial coverage, film contributions, and prize sponsorship. MDR will award the ‘Golden Dove’ for the international competition and the MDR Film Prize for the best Eastern European film. The festival will open with the film ‘Guten Abend, du Schöne’ by Ina Borrmann at the Leipzig Main Station.
