Dolly Parton-inspired literacy initiatives expand in the US
Efforts to promote childhood literacy inspired by Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library are expanding in different regions of the United States.
In West Virginia, the Tygart Valley United Way has announced it will serve as the Local Program Partner for the Imagination Library. This partnership will cover Randolph, Tucker, and Marion counties, providing free, age-appropriate books to children from birth until age five. The program, coordinated by Women United, works alongside the state and local boards of education to deliver books directly to families' homes.
In Florida, the Friends of the West Florida Public Library held a special event at the Downtown Library in Pensacola to honor Parton’s commitment to literacy. During a fall book sale, the organization provided one free book to every child up to age 18 in attendance, offering selections ranging from picture books to young adult fiction to help children build personal home libraries.
